The Visual & Performing Arts Division of Gulf Coast State College is excited to present “Fluidity of Place,” an exhibit by Mandy Yourick.
Yourick is a sixth generation native of the Florida panhandle and her work is heavily influenced by the shoreline. She employs a variety of media including drawings, photography and ceramics as she responds to the ever-changing nature. She sees it as a metaphor for our daily experience and describes her work as a collection of maps. “Maps convey information, traditionally geographic and navigational information, yet the basic purpose is to represent an area,” said Yourick. “In these pieces, I am representing my personal narrative alongside others who live here to reflect the physical landscape and the layers of experiences.”
Yourick was a featured artist at the 2012 Korea Burn Festival in Gijipo Beach, South Korea and served as the artist-in-residence at The Bubbler in Madison, WI. She is currently an Adjunct Professor of Art at GCSC.
- The exhibit will be on display in the Amelia Center Main Gallery (Room 112) from March 13 through April 7.
- A closing reception will be held on Friday, April 7, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.
- Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday, from 10:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m., and Friday 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
