With the vaccine being the wrong strain of flu to begin with, it was warned beforehand that this year’s flu would be bad. There have been over 30 children’s deaths reported from the Center for Disease Control in the US and almost 200 reported in the UK. The World Health Organization estimates that the annual flu result in about 3 to 5 million cases of severe illness globally and 290,000 to 650,000 deaths worldwide. The CDC has estimated that 8.2% of those deaths in the US for the week ending on January 13 were due to pneumonia and influenza symptoms and complications which is much more higher than usual by at least 1%. While that doesn’t seem like a huge number, even a 1% difference with a billion people on this planet makes a big difference.
That being said, Bay County has decided to open up more flu clinics for those in need. Gulf Coast Regional Medical Center is opening one clinic in Panama City and the other in Panama City Beach. Both clinics will take in patients who are suffering from flu-like symptoms, diagnose, and prescribe medication if needed to these individuals.
“Gulf Coast Regional Medical Care in Panama City (located at 4121 West Highway 98) is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays. Gulf Coast Regional Medical Care in Panama City Beach (located at 16181 Panama City Beach Parkway) is open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays, and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends. Two other flu clinics are also available from Bay Medical Sacred Heart. One of them is located at 2420 Jenks Avenue. The other is on Panama City Beach Parkway next to the Bay Medical Emergency Room.” Stated by My Panhandle.com.
