Star Wars Battlefront 2 has just released its version 2.0 update. This update has been a long time coming since my last article about the controversy with their pay to win system they had before. To bring it you up to date it’s been over five months since the whole topic about internet gambling and the way loot crates in the game worked. Since that time frame, they completely wiped out all forms of buying in-game currency to purchase more loot crates. There has been hardly much talk about what exactly they would do to fix the game. In this time there has been minor buffing and nerfing of characters but nothing tremendous. Most have speculated and a few developers have confirmed that they will change the buying DLC format of the game into skins for characters and guns. However, even with this big update, those features are nowhere to be seen as yet. It is speculated that the skins will come around the end of April. Not to say that this update isn’t special as it hosts a huge behind the scene revamp to the character progress model. So they first have to redevelop the star card system instead of using the loot crate system. The way that the old system worked is that whenever you opened a loot crate it would give you different cards for different classes. These cards would level up your character to use better and higher level star cards that greatly enhance your character’s threat on the battlefield. So theoretically you could just keep leveling up all your classes with loot crates and never even touch them. Now it’s changed into a more traditional system where you have to play as the certain classes to rank up their levels. As you gain each level it will give you a point that you can use for upgrading or purchasing other star cards. Now most players would be concerned about their previous progress so far and I was as well. They EA and DICE developers spent several months coding a way to make all your progress transfer over to the new progress system. There was a lot that went into just the coding of this process to make it easy for the current player base to transition. In my opinion, it went very well but I did use lose some low-level star cards in the process. I did, however, retain my maxed out star cards. So on top of these behind the scenes, they also did some balancing to the hero’s and classes. The patch notes for that can be seen here. Also along with this big patch, they have unlocked all hero’s and ships for everyone to use. I’m currently not sure why they did this even though it was a part of the big issue at the beginning of how long it would take to unlock Darth Vader. Personally, I like this as it allows me to progress with characters I would have never chosen in battle. For the maps portion, they have fixed numerous bugs and have fixed many spawn zones. I’ve personally really liked the spawn zone fixed as it works a lot better and I’m not just spawning to die on some maps. They have also brought back the map Bespin from the first game. This map has always been a fan favorite and looks good in this game. These changes have been very crucial to the gaming community and I’m excited for the end of this month to see how they incorporate the skins into the game.
