God of War is a PlayStation exclusive series that has been around since 2005. Over the years it’s been on the PS2, PSP, and PS3’s consoles. The combat and story have really made the game stand out compared to other mythological titles. The story has been focused on the Norse god Kratos. Over the past games, Kratos has focused the majority of time killing other gods in ancient Greece. However, in this new game, it focuses on Kratos’s personal life as he has developed a family and grow’s out a beard. This game is also the first God of War title to be ever featured on a PS4. This game also takes full advantage of the PS4 Pro graphics card and CPU compared to the standard ps4. Graphics wise this game is phenomenal and is a huge improvement compared to the last title. Also, this game surprised a lot of people as the graphics while using a PS4 Pro are significantly better than the graphics shown in the 2016 E3 trailer.

The story focuses on the death of Kratos wife and him growing close to his son. At first, Kratos is extremely distant to his son Atreus as he is very young and didn’t have a stomach for killing. As they progress in their journey the both of them begin to bond together and figure out how to deal with each other’s differences. The journey takes place through the world of a Norse Greece landscapes. The world is extremely lively and has beautiful scenery throughout the story. The camera angles and the way they interact with the cutscenes are seamless. The cutscenes are visually stunning by themselves and it really makes you feel like you are right there with Kratos during fight scenes and during gameplay. The combat system has been completely revamped with some stuff that is familiar. The Leviathan acts like Thor’s Hammer as you can throw it at enemies and make it return back to you. Close quarter combat with fists and smashing with your axe is extremely satisfying and brutal in this game. It’s also extremely fun to go against enemies that are so much bigger than you as the combat attacks progress based on their health.

So far I have enjoyed my experience with the new God of War title. Sony exclusives have always done an excellent job on the visual storytelling of their games. This game instantly reminds me of the The Last of Us Game. A good majority of the puzzle solving and the family bonding similarity between Joel and Ellie as to Kratos and Atreus. The scenery and character visuals are a lot like Horizon: Zero Dawn and has great cutscene much like the Uncharted series. As I progress more and more into this game I’m curious to see what other concepts Sony has baked into this game.
