Caleb Jordan works with WKGC and the Student radio station
He started working at Gulf Coast in 2018 after trying to find what kind of job he wanted to persue.
“ I started volunteering with commodore productions in that whole figuring out what I wanted to do with my life part during the downtime I could get from my actual job. That is the sort of effort that got me to when a part-time position at the radio station came up I said ‘Oh hey! Put me in coach’ They looked at my commitment and what I did previously and said that I’m the guy for the position.”
Before is position at Gulf coast Caleb Jordan worked at Walmart for six years. He started as a cashier right out of high school and eventually moved to customer service where he spent the rest of his time.
Caleb started off part-time and then after Hurricane Michael the need for a full-time employee came up. Where he quickly applied for and got.
I asked what got him interested in the radio program and he had this to say
“ I took the radio class with Scott Kirkman and it was at a time where there was really no direction for the student station. There was nobody using it, it was just the radio class. Scott was really pushing more student involvement like music management, running the schedule, running the library, and stuff in order to fit the style of the station. So after class, I said I would love to learn and he set it up for me. “
Caleb Graduated from Gulf coast with his General associates in December 2017 and will have his bachelor’s at the end of this semester.
I asked him what the most challenging part of his job was.
“ A hurdle I go through every day is how do I take stuff that other people have made, and sometimes I can’t make it shorter or longer, and how do I fit it into the box that is my timeslot? It is a challenge, but sometimes it’s an interesting challenge. Sometimes it will be several short stories and often times if I have three, they might go over by a hair, but I have to find a way to just make it work”
I was then curious about what his favorite part of his job was which he said
“The thing I gain the most enjoyment of and that I’m most proud of is the ability to take what I’ve learned, what I’ve seen, and what I’ve done and use it to make the next students experience better. If I can convey the information I’ve gained so that it doesn’t take the next student that much longer, that’s what really fulfills me in this job, which is why I love the student station.”
Currently, he is working on different projects for the current basketball season
