Whenever you make something, what goes through your head? Does using your hands and mind for creativity clear your mind or fill it with new possibilities? What drives you to make something incredible? Maybe it is something that has never been thought of before. Or even something that has been but somehow you made it better. It could even be possible that doing artsy things makes you feel better about yourself, your world, and just better in general.
If all of this is true, then why not use it to your advantage?
There are so many things to get involved in now to creatively express yourself in the Center for Student Media but imagine if there wasn’t. What if there was no Center for Student Media, Digital Media programs, or even a radio station for Gulf Coast State College? Could you imagine the total and complete lack of fun Gulf Coast would have? There would be no creative outlet for anyone to pursue. Someone might say “So what?” After all, would anything really change?
The answer to that question, is yes. No student run radio station means one less way for students to get their opinions out there, to share what they believe, or even for fellow students to listen and agree.
With no GCTV, there would be no way of preparing oneself for being on TV, if that is the career they choose. With no digital media degree programs, creative students would have to settle for less than what they wanted. No creative student wants to have a career they are not truly interested in.
Last, but not least, what if there was no Center for Student Media? No students could be prepared for their future careers in anything related to web development, media, radio, or anything like that. Not because the classes do not teach the students what they need to know, but because there is very little application. Once a student finishes an assignment, they have to move on to another, using only some of the skills they learned from previous assignments.
Without the Center for Student Media, there would be no actively learning and applying everything that is taught to the student in class in their chosen degree out in the field. Without using what they are learning, their skills may become unsteady and they will lack the experience needed to thrive in their future career.
The main point is this: The Center for Student Media has a lot to offer, and so do all the things it is connected to. Without it, the campus would be a little less creative, a little less bright, and a little less fun. Don’t believe me? See for yourself by becoming involved in the Center for Student Media community. It is guaranteed that you will have no regrets.
