Amidst the quarantine and cancelled college events, two notable art-based projects have begun; Visual Arts Takeover on Instagram and GCSC’s first virtual student art show, “FantasyPop!”. Both projects have a similar concept: using art and online connectivity to bring people together during challenging times of a pandemic. The Visual Arts Takeover on the GCSC Visual and Performing Arts Instagram page’s purpose is to give students some interactive activities to participate in while staying home and staying safe during the COVID-19 quarantine. FantasyPop!, planned by Tammy Marinuzzi and a handful of art majors, was originally meant to be a public outdoor event but is now being hosted completely online.

Visual Arts Takeover Schedule

The full schedule can be viewed here: https://www.instagram.com/p/B-gFC0xllXg/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link The first two scheduled events, Instagram livestreams hosted by two GCSC students, have already occurred on the @gcsc_arts page. During the week of Monday, April 13th, there will be three other scheduled events, including posts of a downloadable coloring sheet, speed art process, and a game of Drawful. The four student artists that are featured during the Visual Arts Takeover have linked Instagram pages and can be viewed directly from the post above.

FantasyPop! Plans

The FantasyPop! flyer can be viewed from this post: https://www.instagram.com/p/B-zexrnhgbY/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link This virtual student art show and exhibition will be viewable on April 25th on the ArtSteps website until May 9th. It will feature artworks from 10 GCSC student artists, all listed on the event’s flyer. The art show was created with a particular theme in mind, to which all the artists settled one of fantasy. More information about the FantasyPop! virtual art show and the featured artists that will be displaying and selling their artwork can be viewed at its Instagram page, @fantasypop.
