Sophie Theiss is a junior at Gulf Coast State College. Sophie is another student that has a longer commute time than most students that attend Gulf Coast. Here is her side of the story on commuting to school.

On a typical school day one way typically takes her 50-60 minutes from just south of Chipley, so, 2 hours total. Sophie’s classes each semester vary, and that will decide on how many days a week she would need to drive to campus.  For example, she had to drive four days a week last Fall and only three days a week for last Spring and this semester.

Moving Closer

The first year attending Gulf Coast State College, she lived only 10 minutes away from campus and loved it. Her family ended up having to move farther away later on. She prefers living closer to campus and has signed a lease for her new apartment in town. The apartment is more expensive than when she lived at home, she says, but luckily she has the means to afford it. Sophie says the best part about being closer is that she gets to sleep in.

There will be new Florida State University, Panama City dorms that will open next fall. Sophie said she will try and get into one of the campus dorms because they would be even closer and much more convenient than the location of where her apartment is now. Sophie is an very dedicated student who works hard and will continue being successful in whatever she does.
