Enter Into the Studio

The Studio Production Room at GCSC’s ATC Building hosts an array of technology and opportunities for any production-seeking-students. The Studio Production Room is located on the 2nd floor of the ATC building. Inside its 1st entrance are 2 doors: choose the one on the left, and you’ll find the control room; choose the one straight ahead and you’ll enter into the studio.

Control Room

The control room, separated from the studio by one giant window and a multitude of monitors and screens, is where the technical action takes place. In here, operators use one of the multiple stations to help run and maintain the show from the studio.   The control room is also used as a base of operations for remote productions- footage from events outside of the studio can be fed into the studio for live editing and recording.

Man Your Station(s)

The room holds the following stations:  Audio: operator monitors and adjusts the sound levels for the talent and room speaker Graphics: operator generates and places live graphics on the screen Teleprompter: operator writes and displays text to the teleprompters for talent to read Technical Director: operator monitors multiple cameras feeds and switches between which one is being recorded/going live

Step Into Your Studio

Assume you instead go straight ahead into the studio room- there you will be met with an array of options, sets, and equipment to meet most video production needs.

The studio room consists of:

  • Centered stage set with table and backdrop
  • Wide green screen area with an optional table
  • Interview area with light-up backdrop and chairs

These sets are then supported by equipment like:

  • Wheelable cameras
  • Overhead adjustable lighting
  • Microphones + ifbs + headsets

(It is worth mentioning here that the studio inventory also holds a collection of cameras, mics, and similar gear that may be checked out by students who need to use them).  There also exists a small audio-recording room inside of the studio for the sole purpose of pre-recording audio quips and other voice-over material; radio production students may find this resource particularly helpful.

Students At Work

Here’s what students had to say about their experiences in the studio.

Jacob Monroe

“Well, working in the studio production room has really been quite the experience. I found the use of cameras to film different angles was really cool and I also really enjoyed running graphics too. When I would run graphics, it would be really fun to mess with all of the different options and colors to fit the theme of the show we were working on that day.”

Cera Lawrence

“The board the technical director uses is pretty funky. There’s a lot of cool colored lights and buttons. I’ve had to use the board a couple of times and while it can be overwhelming, it’s neat to use once you understand what the main buttons do. Being able to switch between the different cameras with a press of a button is a different type of rush. I don’t mess with the top half of the board because I don’t know what those buttons do yet and I don’t wanna break anything to try and find out.”
