The Next Step
The thing about college is that there’s more to it than just class. How are you supposed to build a close relationship with someone if all you ever do is talk to them in class? If you’ve become comfortable with talking to your peers in class, consider joining a club. Clubs are a fantastic way of getting to know people who share a particular interest with you, and they are also a great way to break the ice. You are given a chance to talk to people you may not know existed.
Here is a list of some of the clubs and organizations you can join at Gulf Coast State College:
♣ Student Government Association
♣ The Alternation
♣ Black Student Union
♣ Center for Student Media
♣ Visionaries Ink
♣ Commodore Productions
If none of these sound interesting to you, there are more options you can view on the official Gulf Coast State College website.
Want More Bang for Your Buck?
As a college student, you may not have time for clubs and after-school activities, and that’s okay. There are other options. Like most students, you may need cash. Luckily for you, Gulf Coast State College has student employment opportunities. Not only would this give you work experience, but it would allow you to work with other students. Getting an on-campus job opens the doors to socialization. You get the chance to make friends with your co-workers, who are also fellow students. Not only this, but you can make money at the same time. It’s a win-win situation.
Advice From A Friend
D’Ante McCollum, a GCSC student, works at the front desk in the student union. Here’s what she had to say about her work experience.
” Working at the front desk has helped me gain a lot of friends and meet interesting people. I typically work with another student, so if there are days where there’s not a lot of action, I always have someone to talk to. Students come up to us to ask for help and directions. Sometimes a great conversation can happen. It’s a nice, simple job that has a lot of added benefits. I enjoy talking to people as well as helping them. If you’re shy but would like to try and become more of a social butterfly, I’d recommend getting a job on campus. Strangers can become familiar faces real quick. “
Whether you’d like to be a part of the pep club or make some moolah, there are plenty of opportunities outside of the classroom to make friends.
