The Corona pandemic has gone through many phases that have touched all our lives. Some see it as a minor inconvenience while others have lost loved ones and feel the full effect the virus has had on the world. For this reason, The Visual & Performing Arts Division of Gulf Coast State College is presenting its new exhibit “Quarantine” this month. The exhibit displays how the world reacted to the Covid-19 pandemic through the last six months. It starts at the beginning of filling our cabinets with toilet paper, going into isolation, and finding ways to cope with the mental and emotional toll of a worldwide crisis. Through this exhibit, we reflect on our personal struggles and the ones we share with the rest of the world. It also asks the question “What should we have done differently?” “If we could go back six months would the response be the same or would we have the foresight to prepare in advance?” It also displays how poorly our government has handled this worldwide crisis and its failure to provide a rapid response that could have saved many lives. Powerful pieces of art will be on display representing people from various backgrounds who have had similar but at the same time very different experiences. The exhibit will be on display from October 12 to November 6, in room 112 of the Amelia Center Gallery. Gallery hours are as followed, Monday – Thursday, 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., and Friday 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. If you are interested in going admission is free and you can contact Pavel Amromin at pamromin@gulfcoast.edu for more information.
