The Commodores started the Fall 2021 season with a great open!
Beginning this season, Gulf Coast State College welcomed a new head coach Tyler Younger to the team. After working as an assistant coach for Gulf Coast, Coach Younger decided to come back as the head coach of the GCSC Commodore Baseball Team. He will be working alongside Coaches Bailey and Robison.
Although Baseball at GCSC is traditionally seen in the Spring, the teams are allowed to play 14 dates in the Fall to better prepare for the upcoming season. In addition to practicing as a unit, these games allow the players to be seen by 4-year institutions and even pro scouts.
Let’s Play Ball
On September 14th, the Gulf Coast State Commodores traveled to Enterprise, AL. to face off against the Boll Weevils of Enterprise State Community College. The game ended with a score of 6-1, in favor of the Commodores.
Here’s what a few players had to say about the game:
“We started off slow.. But never let it get to us. We also never made excuses for ourselves, which was nice to see.”
“I think we looked good as a team.. I think that the pitchers threw well, hitters hit hard, and our defense was solid. We really could not have asked for much more.”
“Our bat struggled to start, but that was kind of expected from a game like this. This was the first time we were seen live in a while. The game should have been a blowout.. but I think with time It’ll happen.
The sophomores on the team will also have the opportunity to show what they can do at the Panhandle Conference Showcase on Tuesday, September 28th at 1:00pm CTS.
