Weathering with You is a fantasy/romance anime flick that follows the journey of two teenagers in the city of Tokyo, Japan. Rain has constantly been flooding the city with no stop in sight. However, that is until a girl gains the power to pray the rain away. She meets up with a runaway boy, and together they make a small business based on getting rid of the rain. All seems fine until the two realize that there is a consequence for the girl’s gifted power. Now, what happens to the both of them? Well, you will have to watch the movie to find out.
Main Characters
Hina Amano
Hina Amano is the main female protagonist in Weathering with You. She lives with her younger brother, Nagisa Amano, in a small home in Tokyo. She contains the supernatural power to manipulate the rain and make it stop. Hina gained this power when her mother sadly died in the hospital. How she gained it was by walking through a magical Shinto Shrine. This power that she gained is very benefical, for she used it to make a lot of cash in her newly formed business. However, Hina soon realizes that this power has heavy consequences, and it not only will impact the people around her but also herself too.

Hodaka Morishima
Hodaka Morishima is the main male protagonist in Weathering with You. He is a runaway who fled his town to try and start a new life down in Tokyo. He ends up running into Hina, and the two start a small business called the “Sunshine Girl.” All seems well for the two until the police get involved. There have been searches all around Tokyo looking for Hodaka since he ran away from home. It also does not help that he is a leading suspect in a police case. This ruins their business, and both end up having to go on the run.

Worth a Break from your Work?
Weathering with You is a visually stunning movie that contains great characters and stories. There are elements of the film that will make you laugh and some parts that will make you cry. You will attach yourself to these characters and feel like you are there with them. However, once the credits roll, you will be upset when you realize you will not be able to see/learn more from this world. Now, not all people will react to the movie in the same way as I did, but surely it will bring a tear out of you at some point. Overall, I would highly recommend this movie for students looking for a film to watch while taking a break from their school work.
