The Tried and True

The GCSC library is an obvious and resourceful option. With private study rooms for reservations, it’s a great place for peace and quiet. Need a place for a group study session? Don’t worry, the first floor of the library has outlets, plenty of space, and whiteboards for group collaborations. Talking and food are also allowed on the first floor, while the third floor is a no-talking zone. You can melt into your work without any distractions. Various Adobe and Microsoft programs are available on the computers so you can work on multiple assignments. Whether for math class or graphic design, they have all the resources you need.

The Bay County Public Library has opened back up and is a great place to study if you need to bring your kids with you. With a children’s section full of books and games, it is a great place to get your work done while keeping your kids entertained. They also have a strict, no-talking section and printers available for everyone.

The FSU library is also open to Gulf Coast students and has resources such as 3d printers. If you need a change of scenery, it’s right across the street and equipped with the same programs.

Coffee for the Mind

Local coffee joints like Amavida, The Press, and Caffe Del Mundothat have calming atmospheres perfect for a study session. Let’s be honest the hustle and bustle of mainstream coffee shops have become overrated and overpopulated. The tables fill up fast, and the constant chatter takes your attention away from your studies. The Press is relaxing, aesthetically pleasing, serves quality coffee, and is in the heart of downtown Panama City. Don’t want to drive downtown? Amavida is located in St. Andrews next to Oaks by The Bay and has a delightful ambiance. Not only is the atmosphere more conducive to a productive study session, but you are also supporting a local business.

Take a Breath of Fresh Air

Public outdoor areas like parks are a great space to stimulate your mind. Breathing fresh air and hearing the sound of nature is proven to raise your dopamine levels. It’s an excellent opportunity to step away from your laptop and study using other resources like books, documents, and case studies. Writing your notes by hand may take more time, but it’s also more likely that you will remember the information the next day.

Much like the Public Library, it’s the perfect option if you have children to look after. It’s also a good option if you have to take your pets outside for playtime. Make a day of it, pack a lunch and spend your time outside absorbing knowledge. St. Andrews and Downton PC have outdoor sitting areas full of beautiful scenery. Hentz Park and Frank Nelson Park are examples of excellent locations to bring a blanket, lay down, and get sucked into the pages of your book.

Home Sweet Home

For some of us home, can be a stifling chaotic place but, you may not have another option. Some tricks to make your room a relaxing study space include, playing soft music, running a humidifier, closing your door, letting your family know not to interrupt your study time, and purchasing noise-canceling headphones. Aspects like room temperature and a cozy chair may seem minute, but it’s vital to a sufficient work environment.
