Quick Summary
A Silent Voice follows the journey of a teenage boy in search to rebuild a relationship with a girl that he used to bully. The girl he bullied was deaf and could only communicate by sign language. The boy would repeatedly steal her hearing aids and make fun of her. After a while, he was finally held accountable for his actions. Now, years later wants to apologize and try to form a friendship with the girl. However, it is a rocky road for the boy, as many of his friends left him after he was caught and now struggle to communicate/interact with people. Will he be able to overcome his societal issues and form a friendship with the girl? Well, you will have to watch the movie to find out.

Shoya Ishida
Shoya Ishida is the main male protagonist in A Silent Voice. He was a big troublemaker when he was younger. Shoya and his friends would continuously bully a new student who happened to be deaf. They would push her into fountains, take her hearing aids, and call her many mean names. After being held accountable for his actions, Shoya lost all of his friends and ended up being bullied. Years later, Shoya ends up shutting himself out from most of the world and has only one real goal. His goal is to try to apologize and form a friendship with the student that he bullied.

Shōko Nishimiya
Shōko Nishimiya is the main female protagonist in A Silent Voice. She is not entirely deaf, but her hearing loss is where she can be classified as clinically deaf. She uses hearing aids to help her hear as much as she can. When she was younger, she transferred to Shoya’s school and was instantly bullied by him and his group. However, Shōko is a forgiving person. When she was younger, she tried to forgive Shoya for his bullying and even apologized too. It is tough to make her both angry and cry, for she has endured so much pain throughout her life. She keeps this personality as the movie shifts to the present. However, will she be able to forgive Shoya one more time after all that he has done to her?

The visuals for A Silent Voice are stunning and breathtaking. For a movie made back in 2016, it easily can still compete with the anime movies of today. There are so many scenes from it where you can easily screenshot it with your phone or computer and use it as a wallpaper of some sort. WORTH A BREAK FROM YOUR WORK?
A Silent Voice is an animated film that contains a well-written story filled with amazing visuals and characters. Many moments in the movie will get you feeling very sad or worried about certain characters. If you want to watch a film that will make you happy, then this may not be the one for you. Again, there are a lot of upsetting moments, and
however, there are some positive moments that help to outway the sad moments. Overall, I would highly recommend this movie for students looking for a film to watch while taking a break from their school work.
