Sean Bencosme

Sean was born in 2002 and growing up would develop the same love for baseball that his dad had. This would be easy since his dad became a personal baseball coach. His parents raised him to speak both English and Spanish. He also enjoyed shows like Cops and Live PD which would eventually lead him to begin pursuing a degree in criminal justice. Sean’s hopes are to one day work for the FBI as a detective. But right now Sean is focused on school and baseball. Sean is a sophomore at Gulf Coast State College, and he is also a part of the baseball team. He would like to continue his collegiate baseball career after he leaves Gulf Coast, but it is still up in the air if he will stay for his third year or transfer to a 4-year program.

Sean enjoys being active in his day-to-day life. If he is not going to baseball, he still prefers to get out of the house. He especially enjoys being around friends and other people. One thing he likes doing is visiting his parents’ native countries. Sean and his family have been several times to see family and vacation in Peru and Dominican Republic. One of the greatest influences in his life was his grandfather, but since his passing in 2018, he has grown very close with his grandmother as well. He is also very close with his sister Siarah. They bond over their love for sports with her being a volleyball player.

Sean Bencosme comes from a family that has truly embraced the idea of the American dream. His grandfather, Mauro Bravo, got an opportunity to move to America from Peru early on in his lifetime with the company he worked for. This opportunity meant leaving his young wife and daughter until he could settle his life and be able to have the come and be comfortable. With time Mauro was able to bring his wife Virginia and now ten-year-old daughter, Zoila, to Florida.

Franklyn, his dad, had a different experience but eventually made his way to living in South Florida as well. Franklyn would take trips from his native country of the Dominican Republic to New York and Florida to visit family. When he was 16, his parents decided to make the official move to Florida. Zoila and Franklyn would both end up at college at Miami Dade Community College. Franklyn was a stud baseball player that ended up playing in the minors with the Phillies and the Twins programs. His time would eventually get cut short due to an injury resulting in surgery. After this Franklyn and Zoila decided to settle down.
