That’s A Wrap

The Spring 2022 Baseball Season is officially over! Hard work, determination, and grit allowed the Commodores made it a season to remember. Although they did not continue to the Playoffs, the mostly sophomore team saw both ends of victory and defeat.

The Gulf Coast State College Commodores faced off against their long-standing rivals, the Chipola Indians, on Sat. April 23rd. The game resulted in a 9-5 loss for the Dores, and brought their season to a close with a 31-18 record overall. 

In their last game of the 2022 Season against the Indians, several pitchers took the mound.

Glenn Simes started the game for Gulf Coast State College Commodores Varsity. Simes lasted three and a third innings, allowing three hits and three runs while striking out two and walking one Kenya Huggins, who started the game for Chipola. The right hander lasted three innings, allowing six hits and two runs while striking out four and walking zero.

The Chipola Indians got things started in the first inning when Tucker Flint hit a solo homer. The Indians took the lead for good with two runs in the sixth inning.

In the sixth Jacob McGovern induced Emmanuel Aldoban to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored. The Indians continued on to score three runs in the seventh inning.

McGovern took the loss for Gulf Coast State College Commodores Varsity. The lefty went one and one-third innings, allowing two runs on two hits and striking out two.

Gulf Coast State College Commodores Varsity launched two home runs on the day. Ethan Lizama went yard in the fourth inning. James Jett had a long ball in the fifth inning.
