Welcome to the Midday Cafe
Hey there! Did you get a chance to listen to the Midday Cafe? If not, don’t worry! Your host Jane is here to give you a quick update on what went down. On today’s show, I talked about three songs I have had on repeat this week. Now, it’s time for you to sit back, relax, and enjoy your favorite brew while I take you through today’s music highlights.
Mitski | My Love Mine All Mine
Mitski is a talented singer-songwriter whose romantic and clever lyrics, combined with infectious melodies, have captured the hearts and ears of many listeners. I first discovered her through her song “Strawberry Blond” from the album “Retired from Sad, New Career in Business” released in 2013. Although the song was released several years ago, it gained renewed popularity in 2019 thanks to TikTok and the rise of the cottagecore aesthetic. This year, Mitski released her seventh studio album, “The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We,” and the third single on the album, “My Love Mine All Mine,” became her first song to enter the Billboard Top 100, peaking at number 26. Like “Strawberry Blond,” “My Love Mine All Mine” has gone viral on platforms such as TikTok, with over 1.6 million uses.
Noah Kahan (FT. Hoizer) | Northern Attitude
From Noah Kahan’s third studio album “Stick Season,” “Northen Attitude” is the first single on the album and introduces the listener with a trance-like guitar melody. Although the song was originally released in 2022, a new version was released this month featuring Hozier. The collaboration has been a dream come true for many of my listeners and indie fans. Hozier’s vocals come in during the second half of the song and by the end, his and Noah Kahan’s vocals are dancing together in an almost haunting manner that sends chills through the body. This is the most recent collaboration from Noah Kahan, who also collaborated with Post Malone, Lizzy McAlpine, and Kacey Musgraves earlier this year.
Jordan Sparks | Call My Name
The return of Jordin Sparks’ voice has been long overdue and this listener could not be happier with the release of “Stop This Feeling” earlier this year and her most recent single “Call My Name.” This sultry R&B single has been called by Sparks (Folk, 2023) as “an ode to a love so full, so effortless and pure—there’s a peace and contentment within it.” (paras. 3)
Reaching number 18 on iTunes R&B/Soul, “Call My Name” will be included on her untitled 5th studio album in 2024.
