GCSC Sports: Strong Showings and Close Calls
Another season comes to a close to the Commodores Women’s Basketball team while the mid-season games for baseball and softball pick up steam for the Commodores with impressive showings. For anyone interested in Gulf Coast’s upcoming events, schedules for each team can be found at the GCSC Commodores athletics page as well as look for updates at Gulf Coast’s Facebook and Twitter for quick updates to schedules and scores. Be sure to support Panama City’s own college teams by showing up to their games or showing support on social media.
Commodores Women’s Basketball Finals

The Commodores’ Women’s Basketball season has come to a close with a hard fought game against Indian River in the FCSAA Region 8 State Tournament on the 3rd. The team lost 65-72 ending their championship aspirations this season after a great run this season. They end their season 19-10 with a conference score of 8-5. They had great showings at home and neutral games having 6-1 and 10-2 records respectfully while away games were rough this season at 3-7.

Commodores Baseball

The Commodores baseball team is currently playing in the Panama City Beach NJCAA College Baseball Classic tournament that is being hosted at the Panama City Beach Sports Complex. The team is off to a rough start as they currently hold a 3-6 record for the season and a 2-4 record for the tournament. However, the season is early, and the team has plenty of games left to show the work they have put in off the field. The GCSC baseball team has had 9 games so far with a total of 56 runs and 4 home runs. The team has a batting average of .237, an on base percentage of .352 and a slugging percentage off .344 for the season so far according to the NCJAA.
They are coming off of a win against Florida Southwestern on the 11th as they continue the tournament playing against St. Johns River on the 12th. This week is a busy one for the team as Monday and Wednesday are the only days they don’t have games on. After St. Johns the Commodores will play East George St. on the 13th. On the 15th they’ll be playing against John A. Logan. The team will play against Shelton St. on the 17th and the 18th, as well as Calhoun on the 18th. To close out the week, the team will play Coastal AL. East on the 19th. The team will have a brief break before coming back to play on the 22nd. Softball

The Commodores softball team has had an incredible start to their season boasting an 11-0 record so far. They have 106 runs and 10 home runs with a batting average of .425 according to the NCJAA . A very strong start and as they come off their win against Southern Union, they are set to play Central AL and Lake Land on the 12th as they seek to continue their winning streak. After those games the team will play GA Military on the 13th. After a brief break the team will play in the Sun Chief Classic in Gulf Shores Alabama on the 18th and 19th. On the 18th the team plays East Central CC and CO-Lin CC. On the 19th they’ll play Wallace St Hanceville and Jones County. Then on the 21st they’ll return to Panama City to have a home game against Wallace St Hanceville.
