The lady Commodores played two games in Niceville this weekend and came away victorious in both matchups. Their first opponent was the #9 ranked Pearl River Wildcats. Despite the Wildcats high ranking, Gulf Coast looked like the superior team from the tip off. The Commodores gained a double-digit lead in the 1st Quarter behind 3 three pointers and an Alieghya Bartholomew floater that beat the buzzer. It was a birthday celebration for Isimenme Ozzy-Momodu, who nearly had a double-double to end the first half with 13 points and 9 rebounds. Ozzy-Momodu continued to dominate the Wildcats’ defense, finishing the game with 21 points and 15 rebounds in a solid 67-52 win. Ozzy-Momodu summarized her dominate performance stating, “I just wanted to play like me, no matter who the opponent is.”

Gulf Coast’s next opponent was the Andrew College Tigers, who were reeling from a blowout loss to Northwest Florida State. The Tigers would not get any relief from the Commodores, however. Gulf Coast’s ladies were on fire from beyond the arc, sinking 7 threes in the 1st Quarter alone. Raiane Dias Dos Santos led the three-point barrage, as she connected on 6 three-point shots in the first half as the Commodores went into the break up 49-24. Dias Dos Santos finished her hot game with 25 points and 7 threes. After the game, Dias Dos Santos said, “We knew they couldn’t stop us in the paint, so the three was open and I was just able to hit my shots.” The Commodores finished with 12 three points on efficient shooting in their blowout 79-38 win.
