The lady Commodores played back-to-back games in Niceville on Friday and Saturday.
The first matchup had Gulf Coast face the Eastern Florida Titans. The Lady Commodores controlled the game from the tip as they never trailed in the game. The Commodores’ use of an aggressive full court press forced 18 Titan turnovers with 10 of those coming in the 1st quarter. Isimenme Ozzy-Momodu (15 points and 11 rebounds) and Aryelle Stevens (12 points and 13 rebounds) led the way for the Commodores with both grabbing a double-double in the 66-54 win. After the game, Ozzy-Momodu said, “I wasn’t feeling like myself at first, but my teammates picked me up and that woke me up. If one person is down, we’re going to pick each other up.”
Saturday’s game for the Commodores was against the Miami Dade Sharks. It was another dominating performance for Gulf Coast, especially on the defensive side. Miami Dade was only able to score 15 points in the first half on a dismal 17% field goal percentage. Gulf Coast forced an incredible 28 turnovers in the game and held Miami Dade to 29% from the field. Aryelle Stevens led the way defensively with 5 steals in the 83-53 win. Stevens gives credit to preparation, stating, “We practiced our press and making sure we got in the passing lanes and were there for those steals.”
The Commodores will travel to Gainesville to face Eastern Florida again on the 17th.
