Isimenme Ozzy-Momodu, the star center of the Gulf Coast Lady Commodores, announced on Tuesday that she would be continuing her basketball career at the University of Maryland. Ozzy-Momodu led the Commodores to the number 1 seed in the country before tearing her ACL on February 7th, in a game against Chipola. Prior to the injury, she had been averaging 17.5 points a game and 12.1 rebounds a game on an elite 73% shooting clip. Ozzy-Momodu had offers from Division 1 schools all across the country, and her decision was not one she took lightly. “I fell in love with the coaching staff, team, and what they are trying to build (at Maryland). Honestly, it was really between Syracuse and Maryland, and I didn’t know where to go, but I put everything in God’s hands, and I got a sign that I should go to Maryland.” While she is on to her next chapter, Ozzy-Momodu is grateful for the opportunity she has had at Gulf Coast. “My time at Gulf Coast means so much to me… I just love how much of a family my teammates and I are, and also how much of a good coach Rory Kuhn has been to me on and off the court. Even though I’m not able to play the rest of the season, I’m very happy to know that I am still helping my teammates.” If she can continue her dominate play at Maryland, Isimenme Ozzy-Momodu will, without a doubt be a household name at the Division 1 level. Congratulations Isi and good luck with your next chapter!
