Press Release from Elizabeth Humphries
Panama City, FL – The Visual & Performing Arts Division of Gulf Coast State College presents “Inconceivable” by Poppy Garcia. Garcia’s work is a combination of painting, collage, and a healthy dose of pop culture references. He uses a palette reminiscent of a Florida sunset and visual elements inspired by esoteric iconography, classic cartoons, and early Chicano Art. In “Inconceivable”, Garcia examines our relationship to media and popular culture, the role it plays in constructing our sense of a history, and how we use that history to build a collective future.
Poppy Garcia is an artist and curator from the Gulf Coast of Florida, where they currently live and work. Poppy has been exhibiting work for over ten years, participating in group and solo shows in the South and curating group shows in Pensacola, Florida.
