Breakfast is one of the most common ways to start the day. A good meal can kick off a day, as well as motivate and fuel you to take on what needs to be done. Unfortunately, as college students, we may not have the time or energy out of our mornings to sit and cook up an enjoyable meal before we head off to school. A solution for a lot of students is to just skip breakfast, or resort to unsatisfying drive-thru bites from big fast food chains, but it doesn’t have to be this way. If you found your breakfast routine stale, either in between classes or on your way to class, here is a recommendation of a few good areas nearby the college that will serve you a delicious morning breakfast.

Granny Cantrells

A classic option for anyone looking for some breakfast near the college. Located at 103 West 23rd Street, it’s about eleven minutes from the college, making a 22 minute round trip. If you have the full hour, that leaves you plenty of time to soak in the southern atmosphere while you enjoy a nice breakfast.

And what a breakfast! My personal favorite is the biscuits with sausage gravy, but they have plenty of early morning classics, such as grits, eggs, and french toast. They also are open for Lunch and Dinner, a great option for southern food, but I find their morning menu to be the shining star.

If you just got out of an early class and need a breather and a bite, this is a great location for just that.

Flap Jacks

When I searched for locations to include in this post, I wanted to keep all of the options within fifteen minutes of the college. According to google maps, Flap Jacks on Highway 77 is exactly fifteen minutes away, so I sadly do have to admit I would have a hard time recommending this location if you are already at the college.

With that being said, if you are coming to the college from the direction of Lynn Haven and Highway 77 like I do, I find this place to be a great place to stop and fill up on pancakes and coffee. They have plenty of different options for breakfast, from omelets to pancakes, and it’s not a bad spot for lunch either.

If that toasted bagel you make before leaving in the morning isn’t doing it for you some days, this is a great place to stop.

Tudor’s Biscuit World

There are perhaps a certain number of readers who have looked at this list so far and have found that the idea of driving out ten or fifteen minutes from the college and sitting in a diner takes up a lot of time that they might not have, a very understandable concern. This location is for those readers.

Tudor’s Biscuit world, located at 2621 West 23rd Street, is incredibly close the college, only about six minutes away, and on top of that, is a drive thru location. You don’t need to sit in a diner and wait for your food, meaning your experience will be quick and easy.

The location is focused on, surprise surprise, Biscuits, and offer plenty of variety on what kind you want. They aren’t small either, meaning you won’t be left hungry. There are other options if biscuits are not your thing, and like all of the other options on this list, they also serve lunch and dinner, but to recommend Tudor’s Biscuit World for anything other than their biscuits is rather silly.

Those biscuits were huge, felt like they were the size of my fist!

Waffle House

Now, before I even say anything, let me address that massive elephant in the room. Yes, there are a lot of Waffle Houses, and most of them do not have the best of reputations. When I say Waffle House here, I am referring to specifically the one located at 2502 Highway 77, right by the Starbucks and Sakura. I have not been to any of the other ones in the nearby area, and I have no opinion on them.

Like the flap jacks, it’s another 15 minute drive from the college, so I would only recommend you go there if you’re already nearby, but I cannot keep it off of the list because it is my personal go-to whenever I come into town, for work or college. Their bacon is amazing, and their grits are always a delight. It’s also fast too. On some of the slower days, you can get your food in about five minutes, and the staff is usually super nice.

It’s consistent and reliable, and that’s all one could really ask for when it comes to breakfast.
