Faith is often thought of as a deeply personal experience, a connection between you and God. While personal devotion is essential, faith is not meant to be lived only in isolation. In today’s digital world, it is easy to create a bubble of your own personal interests and stay inside it. However, community is one of the building blocks for a faith-filled life.

As college students, you are guaranteed to face difficult days, whether it’s homesickness, the challenge of making new friends, or navigating the different personalities and viewpoints on campus. In these moments, having a strong faith community is crucial. It provides a safe space where you can express your fears, receive encouragement, and celebrate victories, both big and small.

It is important to recognize the difference between friendships and faith-based community. Friendships often develop naturally with those around us, but they don’t always share the same spiritual morals and  values. While it’s possible, and even beneficial, to have friends with different viewpoints, a faith community consists of people who share your core beliefs, morals, and values. These individuals not only understand your struggles but also help keep you accountable in your spiritual journey.

Building your own faith community may seem challenging, especially if you’re new to faith, but finding one is more accessible than you might think. It can be as simple as joining a church or finding a faith-based club here at Gulf Coast State College
