Character AI’s is exploding with popularity

It’s needless to say the AI world is moving at a insurmountable pace, always having new updates quite frequently. Ever since the arrive of generative Artificial intelligence it has gained quite a hearty amount of users. And with those users there comes a specific audience of people who utilize this AI, not for getting information but for a different purpose. Interacting with peoples favorite characters. Character Ai is a platform that used the generative ai and with that allows people to talk to them as if they were real people. But they aren’t actually real, so why do people enjoy it so much? lets get into that and more.

The start of Ch.ai

A specific app that has gained over thousands of users over its time ever since its spike in popularity is a web called Character.ai, Or Ch.ai for short. There’s an app variant of this site as well on mobile. The beta version of this application was released on January of 2022, founded by former Google AI developers Noam Shazeer and Daniel De Freitas. As mentioned previously character Ai is used with generative ai and made to be more human. All the bots are based off of someone or a specific person like celebrities, fictional characters, even historical figures.

Why do people love it so much ?

There’s so many reasons as to why. And from what i have observed from online, there’s lots of different answers. For some it’s to touch up on their roleplaying skills or writing even. Others it’s just for fun to see what will happen when asking the AI something funny. Could be just a way to pass the time, or it could be something much deeper.

The integration of giving the AI a Voice

AI voices have been around for a while, ever since Siri. though in most recent times there has been a recent dilemma. Where people have been developing AI voices to where the AI can sound similar or close to exact to the original voice. I’m sure you can see where this is a problem. This  development has caused issues in industries and has

Here’s a sound clip of an AI generated voice of the name “Straw hat”

As shown in the audio clip below its an advertisement promoting ch.ai’s mechanic of being able to call the bots. This character is called “straw hat” it’s essentially just Monkey D. Luffy from popular anime One Piece but his voice got transported into AI. He asks an odd question thats for sure, yet the advertising for ch.ai is in the  majority it’s promoting. Its upsetting to me though that voice actors have been getting their beloved character voices stolen by people who just want to make a quick dollar. It devalues their work as they put work and effort into bringing these characters to life through the shows and people just snatch it up like that,
