The Fall Semester is heading into its final stretch this year but the Commodores basketballs teams are just getting started! How have the Commodores faired as they begin kicking off the season? How did the Volleyball team do this season? Keep reading to find out.

GCSC Volleyball

The GCSC Volleyball team had quite the amazing season this year settling in with a record of 26-5. Of that score, 10 were conference wins and 3 conferences loses. They dominated home, away, and neutral games with respective scores of 11-2, 10-1, and 5-2. They managed to achieve an impressive 16 game win streak at the start of the season, showing how well the team was prepared for the season. Their last win streak was 6 games leading up to the first round of the NJCAA Division 2 Volleyball Championship. It was in this match that the Commodores lost to Iowa Central and were knocked out of the championship. After that they played a consolation match against McHenry County and were defeated again, resulting in 2 of their 5 losses this season.

Although they didn’t manage to win the championship this year, their record shows their effort and dedication this season and that the Commodores have set their sights on making it back and going for the crown again next year.

Kicking off the Season for Women’s Basketball

The GCSC Women’s Basketball team are kicking off the season with an incredible start. They are currently 7-0 having won every game they had this November. A seven-game win streak with their closest game being a 15-point game and their largest lead being 61 points. The team is showing how much effort they put into training between the seasons and shows no signs of slowing down. Their next game, and their first of December, is against Florida SouthWestern State at Daytona Beach on Friday the 2nd at 4 PM. After that they’ll be playing against Daytona State in the Florida JUCO Shootout on the 3rd at 4 PM. Then on the 17th, the Commodores will be at home playing against Central Georgia Tech for the Gulf Coast State College Classic.

Kicking off the Season for Men’s Basketball

The Commodores Men’s Basketball had a rough patch as they kick of the season with two consecutive losses against South Georgia Tech and Pearl River. The losses were short lived however as the team has gone on to win four straight games. This brings their score early this season to 4-2, losing once at home and once while away.

Coming off their win against Andrew, the Commodores set their sights to their finally 3 games of November. This Monday the Commodores will be playing in the Pensacola State College Tournament against Lamar State-Port Arthur at 6 PM. On Tuesday they will play against Ranger at 6 PM. Finally, the Commodores will face Jones at 2 PM, rounding out the tournament. The team will then have a break before their first game in December against Florida SouthWestern State. Will the men’s basketball team be able to keep their winning streak alive? Only time will tell if their effort and training will pay off.

With that we celebrate an amazing Volleyball season and look forward to next year with championship aims. Kicking off the season with such strong starts though makes us look forward to seeing what the GCSC Basketball teams will be capable of this year and if they might be able to make it to the championship rounds.
