The morning mix plays on 90.7 WKGC most mornings, but you may be asking yourself what do they do?

The morning mix is hosted by Tom Hoots and Caleb Jordan and helps promote community events and talk about anything that is affecting our community in and way. Tom Hoots likes to throw in some history about certain events or topics during the mix. All of this will be talked about for at most a few minutes after a few songs during the morning.

Jason and Maggie

A recent guest on the morning mix was Jason Heddon, who is involved in many events including but not limited to performing his standup comedy here at Gulf coast with one of this year’s top contenders from Americas Got talent Ryan Niemiller who achieved third place.

Jason Heddon was alongside Maggie Jones, A VPA student and cast member for Godspell the musical, to talk about the Grand opening of Godspell, which will be hosted at Gulf Coast State College’s Amelia Center Theatre.

In order to find out more, I enlisted the help of one of the employees Angela Small who writes the stories on wkgc.org

She said

“Sometimes we will have guests come in about community events and issues. Sometimes we have musical guests come in and perform. With the Godspell musical going on right now we have had some of the performers come on and talk about what is happening with all of that, and then they will sing and do other stuff. We share a lot of weather about storms to keep people informed.”

In addition to the previously mentioned activities, 90.7WKGC ( the station that hosts the morning mix), also serves to provide news and updates during disasters.

If you remember back to October of last year when hurricane Michael struck, 90.7 was the last station standing to report weather news. Scott Kirkman, who is no longer operating under WKGC was the main individual reporting during those times.

I asked what she does behind the scenes, where she stated:” I do the Podcast and get the audio files from our guests and post it on the WKGC website and post pictures of the guest and other events on social media.”

Wkgc logoI asked how social media has helped with the morning mix and she said

“With social media, you can do so much more that you can do with other things. When we have people in for the morning mix, we take photos with the people and put them on social media. It just makes it easier for everybody to know what is going on.”

The Mix serves to help keep our community informed, entertained, and together, while at the same time playing great music for you to hear during your busy mornings.
