What is commodore Productions?
To help find out I recruited the help of one of the members of the commodore productions team Corum Byers who said
“Commodore productions is a part of the center for student media, we cover a lot of the TV side of things and the graphics side of things. We are at a lot of the live game where we operate the camera and the switching on a tri-caster to broadcast certain shows or programs”
The main goal of Commodore Productions is to provide students with a way to give students real life experience that they need when they leave to go into the workforce.
Students will learn how to operate camera equipment to industry standard. Some of the things they do are:
Learn how to put together a TV show
How to conduct an interview
Film different events
Edit equipment
What do students wanting to be involved need to know?
“ Student involvement means being willing to show up early and learn how to set up a camera, learn how to put graphics in the tri-caster, and if you don’t know how to make the graphic for it we will show you how to make the graphic for it. Its basically the receptiveness to learning and not being afraid to not understand it the first time.”
I asked Corum what his favorite part of working with Commodore Productions has been
“ it’s definitely, again, that hands on experience that you get from the Commodore Productions program in general while pursuing the digital media bachelor’s degree or associates degree. I originally volunteered as part of a class, and of course I just kept working towards it and found out that it was a lot of fun. I started to really enjoy the work behind it so eventually I applied to be a student assistant and working with some of the projects”
The best thing to do if you would like to join Commodore Productions is talk to Dr. Goines, who leads the center for student media program as well as Commodore Productions.
They also have a Commodore Productions Facebook page that has contact information on it.
Commodore productions is currently working on filming basketball games and touching up the hurricane Michael documentary and the recent Christmas special that the studio class has put together. The Commodore Productions team also has a documentary in the works on Hurricane Michael that they are going to send off soon.
Recently they went to the printing press museum in St. Andrews where they recorded footage and interviews on how it got its start.
